Aurangabad, meaning "Built by the Throne", named after Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, is a city in Aurangabad district, Maharashtra, India. The city is a tourist hub, surrounded with many historical monuments, including the Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as Bibi Ka Maqbara. The administrative headquarters of the Aurangabad Division or Marathwada region, Aurangabad is said to be a 'City of Gates', as one can not miss the strong presence of these as one drives through the city. Aurangabad is also one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

Reaching Aurangabad
By Air
Aurangabad is having domestic airport. Air services are available to and fro from Mumbai by Jet airways ( in the morning and evening) and from New Delhi ( via – Mumbai ) by Indian airlines ( in the evening)
By Road
Aurangabad is well connected with major cities of the Maharashtra state and India by a good network of roadways. The distances for some of the major cities from Aurangabad are Pune (214 km), Nasik (218 km), Indore (402 km) and Mumbai (403 km). Besides State transport, private luxury buses are also a convenient mode of road transport
By Train
Aurangabad is well connected with major cities of India by train. Aurangabad (SC railway) is located on Secanderabad ( B.G.) – Manmad (B.G.) railway track. It is around 600 kms from Secanderabad. Delegates can also reach Aurangabad either from Manmad (Jn) or Bhusawal (Jn). Manmad (Jn) and Bhusawal (Jn) are located on Mumbai – Hawrah railway track (Central Railway). Manmad (Jn) is 135 km and Pune is 220 km from Aurangabad. There are connected trains from Manmad (Jn) to Aurangabad. Aurangabad is around 175 Kms from Bhusawal (Jn) by road/taxi. Direct express train (daily) services are also available from Mumbai to Aurangabad (Tapovan -7617, Nandigram Exp-7605 and Deogiri Expn- 1003.). Similarly direct express train (daily) services are available from New Delhi to Aurangabad (Amritsar – Nanded Suchkand Exp - 2716)

About 97 km from the city of Aurangabad, the rock cut caves of Ajanta nestle in a panoramic gorge, in the form of a gigantic horseshoe. Among the finest examples of some of the earliest Buddhist architecture, cave paintings and sculptures, these caves comprise Chaitya Halls, or shrines dedicated to Lord Buddha and Viharas or monasteries used by Buddhist monks for meditation and the study of Buddhist teachings.
THE ELLORA CAVES:
The cave temples and monasteries at Ellora, excavated out of the vertical face of an escarpment, are 26 km north of Aurangabad. Extending in a linear arrangement, the 34 caves contain Buddhist Chaityas or halls of worship and Viharas or monasteries, and Hindu and Jain temples.
DAULATABAD FORT
Daulatabad Fort is a magnificent fort situated in Maharashtra, at a distance of around 13 km from the Aurangabad city.
