implemented the National Adult Education and Extension Programme as per the guidance of
University Grants Commission,
The Adult, Continuing Education and Extension Center established under the scheme
of UGC was initially taken into hand the National Adult Education Programme (NAEP) at the
end of the year 1978 as per the guidelines of UGC and acceptance from Government of
Maharashtra with a view to educate the illiterate people within the jurisdiction of
university area with sanctioning core staff-coordinator (1) and Project Officer (2). As
per the census report out of six districts, four districts i.e. Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded
and Beed were below national literacy average rate. Initially 45 colleges of six districts
were involved in NAEP by financial assistance directly to the colleges. After reviewing
the NAEP the UGC provided the financial assistance to the colleges through university
w.e.f.
Meanwhile taking into account the importance of the centre the UGC sanctioned the
following core and ministerial staff to the centre as follows: Director (1) Assistant Director (1) Project Officer (1) Technical Staff (1) Jr. Stenographer (1) Clerk Typist (1) Accounts Clerk (1)
Simultaneously the UGC added Continuing Education club and Planning Forum in the
programme. The university implemented these programmes very successfully.
As per Education policy of 1968 mass programme for functional literacy added with
the previous programme. Each One Teach One or Each One Teach Five
scheme implemented by involving
i.
Adult Education
Centre to eradicate illiteracy.
ii.
Continuing
Education Programme to update skill of adult learner and self employment.
iii.
Population
Education Club to aware the students and community about health, hygiene, environment,
adoption of small family norms and sanitation.
iv.
Jan Shikshan
Nilayam an information window to provide news papers, reading material books,
sports material to the learners. The centre base programme were closed and
total literacy campaign implemented through university and colleges as per norms of
Government of India and UGC upto the end of 8th Five year Plan. The Honble Vice-Chancellor in his emergency powers conferred upon him under section 14(7) of the Maharashtra University Act, 1994 us pleased to redesignate the posts of core staff of the Department as follows as indicated in 10th Five Year Plan guidelines of UGC. Director Professor and Head, Assistant Director Reader, Project Officer Lecturer possessing the same status and privileges (except vacation and working hours) as teachers in other University Department.

The department of Adult, Continuing Education is playing a major role in Extension
avtivities involving sources, resources, faculties , laboratories and labs of the
