INTRODUCTION
The Department started in June 1985 with two professors and two readers as teaching faculty members of department of Environmental Science Contributory teachers from Botany, Zoology , Industries etc. were invited to associate with departmental teaching. Initially the intake capacity of the department was 8, subsequently the number was increased to the tune of 19. Eminent teachers like Prof. R. Nagbhushanam, Prof. S.T. Talak, Prof. N. R. Rajderkar, Prof. Dr. S. B. Wagh were in association with teaching in the department. However in due course of time all above mentioned teachers went on supperannuation . At Present , teaching faculties in the department such as Prof.B.N.Pande,Dr. N.N.Bandela and Dr. S.S.Patil are sharing the responsibility of teaching. Besides, some experienced experts in the field of environmental viz Prof.Naidu from Shri Venkateshwara University, Tirupati, Prof.Shashikumar from Jammu, Prof.Subbarao and Dr.Kameshwarao from Waltior,Prof.S.M.Reddy from Warangal,Prof.Manoharchary from Hyderabad, Prof.A.K.Jain from Gwalior,Prof. K.L.Tiwari from Raipur,Prof Gunale from Pune, Prof. Jaisamanth (Kolhapur) etc. are frequent visitors of the department as eminent resource persons.
The department is unique in having expertise in number of fields of Environmental Science like ecology , Biodiversity and energy resource management, Microbiology, environmental chemistry, Water and Wastewater treatment technology, Air and Air pollution control technology, Environmental biotechnology, Industrial safety, EIA, Environmental priorities and Sustainable Development, Hazardous Waste management, Remote sensing etc.
The department is also running Environmental Consultancy laboratory and extending consultancy to various industries, institutions etc.
The department has been receiving funds from funding agencies like, University Grants Commission, New Delhi, Ministry of Environment, forest and wild life, New Delhi, Department of Science and Technology cell Mumbai etc. in the from of research projects and Schemes.
