Marathi Dept. of the Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University came into being in 1958, the year
the university was set up. Classes were being held in the Zillah perished
premises then and soon the department was shifted to the University’s
own building. The noted author and critic, W. L. Kulkarni (1959-79) was
the first head of the department followed by Dr. Y. M. Pathan (1973-90),
Dr. sudhir rasal (1997-97), Dr. Sudam Jadhav (1997-99), Dr. Sharad
Vyawahare (1999-2001) Prof. Blkrishna Kavathekar (2001-2003), Prof. Datta
Bhagat (2003-2005) Dr. Bhagwan Thakur (2005-2006) and Prof. Dr. Pralhad G.
Lulekar is shouldering the responsibility as a Head form 2006 onwards.

The Department has a veritable treasure trove in 4000 rare
manuscripts in
Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu and Marathi. They have been written in 16th
and 17th Century but describes the events beginning from13th
Century. It also has 70 stone –inscription and utensils of the period of
Mahanubhavs.
Seminars
/ Workshops / Lecture Series:
Seminars are held every year covering different aspects of marathi
Literature. Prominent literary personalities and critics form Marathwada
and outside take part in seminars, reckoned personalities.
Syllabus:
Marathi department is implementing autonomous syllabus since the
academic year 2006 onwards.
